A hutong is a unique form of traditional Beijing living quarters with a small street or a lane between two courtyards. There are thousands of hutongs in Beijing, most of which were built in the Yuan, Ming, and Qing Dynasties.

Day 4 : Great Wall of China
Stroll the Wall

Shake off your jet lag with a walk along the awe-inspiring Great Wall of China.

Ming Tombs

This afternoon, visit the majestic Ming Tombs, burial place of thirteen emperors of the Ming Dynasty.

Add on: Peking Opera Show

Take in an optional Peking Opera show this evening.

Day 5 : Continue to Xi'an

Temple Visits and Summer Palace

Visit the Confucius Temple, Lama Temple, home of the famous Yellow Hat Sect, and the Summer Palace.

Buddhist Lunch

Savor lunch at a traditional Buddhist restaurant.

Travel to Xi'an

Board an overnight train to Xi'an.

Tai ji and Calligraphy

LEAP Activity | Tai Ji and Calligraphy

Discover the history of the Chinese martial art, Tai Ji. Learn the moves from an experienced instructor, then practice what you’ve been taught. A lesson in traditional Chinese calligraphy, Hanzi, teaches you the history behind this widely respected art form. Afterward try your best to recreate the strokes using an ink brush. Do you have what it takes to master the art?

Day 6 : Explore Xi'an
Terra Cotta Warriors

See the 8th wonder of the world—the life-size Terra-cotta Warriors.

Wild Goose Pagoda

Step inside the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda, a Buddhist pagoda built in 652. It now stands 210 feet tall and, from the top, offers views over the city of Xi'an. A statue of translator and traveler Xuanzang greets travelers in front of the temple area.

Bell Tower

Visit the Xi'an Bell Tower, located in the heart of the city.

Day 7 : Travel to Yangshuo
Xi'an Muslim Quarter

Wrap up your stay in Xi'an with a stroll through the Muslim Quarter.

Fly to Guilin

Board your flight to Guilin.

Travel to Yangshuo

Upon arrival in Guilin, take a short journey to Yangshuo and enjoy a sightseeing tour along the way.

Day 8 : Yangshuo
Bike Yangshuo

Pedal through the Yangshuo area on a bike tour and gaze at the spectacular mountain scenery.

A visit to a local school introduces you to Chinese students. Learn the similarities and differences found in their classroom and the classrooms you are accustomed to at home.

Day 9 : Continue in Yangshuo
Markets of Yangshuo

Get acquainted with local traditions and customs in a Yangshuo-area village. Enjoy a free afternoon strolling through the markets and shopping for souvenirs.

Evening Show

Tonight, treat your senses to the exhilarating Yangshuo Sound and Light Show.

Day 10 : Travel to Shanghai
Flight to Shanghai

Take a short bus ride to scenic Guilin before boarding a plane to Shanghai, China's largest city.

Tour Shanghai

This afternoon, enjoy a local guide-led sightseeing tour of Shanghai, including the Colonial Bund, the French Concession, and People's Square, a spectacular space in the heart of the city.

Day 11 : Explore Shanghai
Shanghai Museum

Spend your morning visiting the Shanghai Museum.

Enjoy the Show!

This afternoon, marvel at an acrobatic show.

Day 12 : Depart for Home
Final Farewells...

Board your flight home to the United States.

Tour Central is staffed by WorldStrides employees and is available 24/7 for all traveling groups. Tour Central is there to assist you with any questions or problems that may arise—no matter how big or how small. The staff is specially trained to monitor events domestically and around the world, and has dozens of contingency plans in place to help us jump into action when necessary. The Tour Central number for your group is printed on the WorldStrides name badges that are given to all our travelers for easy access should you need it. This is just one of the many measures that we take to ensure that your trip really is the experience of a lifetime.

Up to Three College Credits Included with this Program

Through our Discovery for Credit Program, students traveling on an international WorldStrides program have the opportunity to earn academic credit by completing an online course that allows them to reflect upon many of the themes and topics explored during their travel program. Those in grades 6–12 at the time of travel can earn free elective high school credit upon successful completion of both the travel program and online course. Through our university partner, George Mason University, eligible students in grades 9-12 at the time of travel can earn up to three college credits upon successful completion of both the travel program and online course. Students who earn credit with WorldStrides will find this distinguishes them as online learners and gives them a jump-start on their path to a successful higher education experience.
